As they enter ‘big school’ for the first time, our Year R children have a class to themselves. This small number of children enables them to have the very best start to their school journey and get used to the routines and ebb and flow of school life. The class is taught by Miss Kirkham who is ably supported by Mrs Holdich (Mon – Thurs) and Mrs Hanham (Thurs & Fri)
The children in Year R follow the Early Years Curriculum, divided out into half termly themes which is then divided into the 7 areas of learning for Early Years children. In this classroom, you will certainly still see a role play area (themed of course!), water and sand play areas, lots of creative activities but all underpinned by developing writers, readers and mathematicians who are growing in skill level.
Sprat & Winkle’s spring topic is all about night and day! In this topic they will learn about the animals that are out and about once they go to bed and they will base their reading and writing around the story of Owl Babies. They will also learn about space and the planets, asking questions about the moon and stars and using role play to venture up into space. Click on the topic map below to find out more!
