As they enter ‘big school’ for the first time, our Year R children have a class to themselves. This small number of children enables them to have the very best start to their school journey and get used to the routines and ebb and flow of school life. The class is taught by Miss Kirkham who is ably supported by Miss Palk.
Mrs Cooper, Miss Palk and Mrs McInnes have put this video together for you to help you find out what to do when school starts Sprat & Winkle in a couple of weeks time. We can’t wait to see you! Sprat & Winkle Click here to watch it!
The children in Year R follow the Early Years Curriculum, divided out into half termly themes which is then divided into the 7 areas of learning for Early Years children. In this classroom, you will certainly still see a role play area (themed of course!), water and sand play areas, lots of creative activities but all underpinned by developing writers, readers and mathematicians who are growing in skill level.
Sprat & Winkle’s Autumn topic is called ‘The Jolly Postman’ and is perfect for the build up to Christmas. In this topic the children will be busy writing, and receiving letters. They will be writing letters to members of their family, taking their letters to the post office to buy a stamp to ensure it arrives in time. Of course they will also be writing letters to a very important person as Christmas gets closer and closer. Click on the topic map below to find out more!
