Special Educational Needs (SEN)
It is important that every child flourishes and is supported in school, regardless of the challenges they may face. We work in partnership with a number of outside agencies and families themselves to support children with SEN and ensure that they get the very best we can offer them.
Our Special Educational Needs & Disability Co-ordinator (SENCO) is Mrs Jennifer Whittington. Mrs Whittington is perfectly placed to be our SENDCo because she was our Year 1/2 teacher before going on maternity and has taught all children in Years 3 and above as well as spending time in Year R each week to get to know all of our new children coming in too. With the support of the teaching team, she knows them well enough to know their learning styles and strengths as well as their challenges.
In pre-school, Mrs Evans manages the day to day SEN but links with Mrs Whittington to share expertise.
They are not alone!
We work with the following agencies depending on need, many of whoom are private and bought in by us to avoid delays with the Government agencies who are swamped with referrals at present:
- Speech & Language therapist Charlene Cable
- Play therapist
- Private physios
- Art therapist
- QWERTY kids to teach touch typing for children with handwriting challenges
We refer any pre-school cases we would like further support with in pre-school to our Area Inclusion Co-ordinator or other specialist agencies.

Since September 2014, we have published a School SEN information report which gives parents an easy to access document about how we identify and support not just children with Special Educational Needs but their families too.

In addition to the school publishing it’s SEN information report, Hampshire have a whole website dedicated to SEN and how they can support families. It’s a vital source of information on who you can approach for support and how the SEN system works.
Accessibility plan
The School’s accessibility plan is reviewed every year with objectives set for 3 years this is because often, works relate to the use of devolved capital money and need to be planned well in advance. Of course, there should be no barrier for a parent or child attending our school and should needs change due to circumstances or context, we will address this immediately taking the users needs and viewpoints with us.
